Rules
- Don't be an ass, this includes being aggressively confrontational. Assume the best in people, before assuming the worst.
- No shitposting: no spamming, no talking just in memes or emojis.
- There is no topic for #general, but talking about the mod has priority. Other channels do have topics that should be respected.
- This server is not always a safe space. There might not be content warnings. Exercise caution and ask the mods for help protecting yourself.
- We have a very diverse group of fans and are therefore strict when it comes to matters relating to neuro-diversity, gender and sexuality. This includes anything related to mental health, so no mocking other's issues and don't act in poor taste ("go kill yourself", etc).
- Don't DM mods for tech support. We have forums, this Discord, MC Forums, even Github Discussions. Under no circumstance should you DM mods for tech support.
A Simple Moderation Workflow
- Was a simple rule broken?
- Quote rule to user, in public, so that others can be reminded of the rules too
- Try to get verbal confirmation that the user has seen your message
- Potentially, ask the user to read the rule in question back to you
- Egregious rulebreaks can just immediately be timed out or even banned
- If a simple rule was not broken, can it be resolved peacefully?
- De-escalate the situation
- Steelman the user’s arguments: aka try to put what they said in the best possible light so that they can see what behaving well looks like, give them a chance to correct the mistake or apologize
- Use the moment to educate the user, for example on social justice issues
- Don’t feel afraid to ask another moderator to take over, especially in case of representation (for example asking a queer moderator to handle education on a queer issue)
- If peaceful resolution did not work or is not possible
- Bring up the issue with the other moderators
- Decide on a ruling
- If the issue comes up multiple times, consider making a simple rule about this behavior, based on the decisions that were already made
- If necessary, punish the member
- Make sure punishments are logged correctly by filling in the reason
- Warn the member by giving them a 60s timeout, this will be logged to Audit
- Give them a 1h or 1d timeout to let them know their behavior will not be tolerated (this is usually in case their behavior is a danger to others, such as using slurs, making light of suicide, etc)
- Ban the member in question (this is ideally done after checking with at least one other moderator and done after it becomes clear a member will not respect the rules going forwards)
- Document the moderation for the other moderators, take screenshots of the infraction if posts were deleted
Core Values
- We try to moderate in public, so that moderation is transparent, and so others can learn
- We use best judgment and act flexibly, and base hard rules on existing behavior that has already been shown to work
- We prioritize inclusivity, collaboration, openness and discourage gatekeeping
- We make users feel welcome and homely
- We take in mind the flaws of people, especially those who are neuro-divergent
- We protect from injustice and direct harm
